How to Rehydrate your food

TIPS

1. Use Warm or Hot Water

Most freeze-dried foods rehydrate best with warm or hot water. It helps the food absorb moisture faster and more evenly.

2. Add Water Slowly

Start with a small amount of water and add more as needed. Some foods absorb more than others, and it’s easier to add than to remove.

3. Let It Sit

After adding water, let the food sit for 5–10 minutes (longer for larger items like meats or meals). Give it a stir halfway through to help the moisture distribute evenly.

4. Use the Right Ratio

A general rule is:

  • 1 part food to 1–2 parts water
But it can vary. For fruits and veggies, less water is usually needed. For meals or meats, more may be required.

5. No Water? No Problem!

Many freeze-dried foods (like fruits, snacks, and candy) taste great dry and crunchy right out of the bag. Rehydration is optional for those!

6. Experiment to Your Taste

Some people like their food a little firmer, others prefer it softer. Try different amounts of water and soak times until it’s just right for you.

Bonus Tip:

For soups and stews, rehydrate right in your cooking pot by adding your freeze-dried ingredients directly to boiling water or broth.
